Project Description:
Rakino Island, a small island in the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland. The islands inhabitants are made up of people from the mainland of Auckland, where they come to Rakino to escape the city life in search for a small off grid, batch life
existence.
The owner and architect of this property engaged with me to soften and in-bed the structure of the small dwellings built on this sloping ocean facing property. Using all native species to in-bed the buildings within its landscape requires careful selection of coastal appropriate species, within a high wind zone, using scale and hierarchy in plants form to frame and preserve significant view shafts, and creating privacy from bordering properties.
